Creating a circular

approach to food, energy water and waste to benefit

people and planet

Welcome to MAD LEAP

We belief that we can manage our everyday food, energy, water and waste better.

But, what does ‘better’ mean?

What if we transformed our food waste, where its generated, into renewable fuel for cooking, heating, generating electricity and vehicle use, and recycled nutrients, water and fibre to support local sustainable food growing?

What if we made the process adaptable so it was replicable anywhere?

And what if we spread the idea of waste as a precious resource through training, employment, engagement and educational opportunities?

Would you consider that a better use of food waste?

We think it is!

As well as demonstrating solutions in the UK, we’re also working with our Nigerian partners on affordable, robust and safe versions of our technology for Sub Saharan Africa, where women and girls must often walk for miles to collect firewood for cooking. Lack of access to clean, affordable energy here means less time for education and contributes to health hazards due to poor indoor air quality and deforestation, driving climate warming and loss of biodiversity

Transforming waste into renewable fuel and fertiliser can tackle Sub Saharan Africa’s lack of waste management capacity, support smallholders and leapfrog expensive centralised infrastructure to benefit local communities.
